Wedge-Wood Cottage

Wedge-Wood Cottage is a charming 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, cottage on the Clarens Gold and Leisure Estate. Sleeps 6. The cottage is situated on a circle  opposite a peach orchard with uninterrupted views of Mount Horeb. There is a children's play area in close proximity. The cottage also has a splash pool that can be heated and also has jacuzzi jets on two sides of the pool. The pool is fitted with a heat blanket and pool net for safety. The cottage has a spacious airy open plan living and dining room (open beams) with granite custom built kitchen and scullery. The kitchen has gas hob/electric oven, washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer. There is a wood burning fireplace in the living area as well as an air-conditioner with heating and cooling functions. Both bathrooms have underfloor heating and all beds have electric blankets. Two of the bedrooms have queen beds and the third has 2 singles. The en suite bathroom has both bath and shower and the other has a large shower The view patio has a 6 seater patio set, Weber braai and a fenced front garden. DSTV is provided Wood for the fireplace is not supplied. A housekeeping service is included in the rate Mondays to Saturdays. Waterford House

The charming artistic village of Clarens, situated in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains and just 3 hours by car from Johannesburg, is the picturesque location for The Clarens Golf Estate, which features an 18-hole golf course. There are also over 30 kms of river as well as numerous dams for the trout fishing enthusiast. Golden Gate National Park is a short drive from Clarens and the mountain kingdom of Lesotho is an easy day trip. Accommodation Situated in a quiet enclave on the Clarens Golf Estate, this luxury home is available for the discerning self catering guest. Built in traditional Free State farmhouse style, the house has sandstone cladding and green 'tin' roof and has generous covered patios with wonderful views of Mount Horeb. The large double volume lounge has a loft library/study accessed by spiral staircase. There is a separate and comfortable TV lounge with large plasma screen TV/PVR/DVD as well as an 8 seater dining room for relaxed holiday dining. A fully equipped designer farmhouse kitchen and scullery offer gas/electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. There is also a guest cloakroom. Folding cottage pane doors allows access from all living areas to the enormous patio with traditional 'afdak', just perfect for summer living. There is a large wood burning fireplace in the lounge and under floor heating in all rooms to keep you warm and cosy in the winter. All beds have electric blankets. There are four en suite bedrooms, each with their own entrance and private patio areas. Two of the en suite bathrooms have showers only, one bath only and main has both bath and shower facilities. The Clarens Country House

The Clarens Country House is nestled in a wooded corner of the secure Clarens Golf and Trout Estate, with wrap-around mountain views. The century-old stone house offers 4 luxury self-catering suites opening onto an enormous fully-glassed veranda - Oom Schalk se Stoep. The WildeAls and Ouhout apartments are en-suite doubles while the double-story Bosman Suite sleeps four and is perfect for two couples or a family. Quite separate is The Shepherd's Loft, which provides complete privacy for a romantic getaway. Each self-catering apartment provides serviced en-suite luxury with full bathroom and separate toilet, lounge and fully-fitted kitchenette. You'll find crisp linen, king-size or separate beds, fluffy towels, heated rooms, DSTV and a decanter of sherry on the sideboard. Complementary tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh farm milk in the fridge complete the welcome. Mountain Villa at Clarens - Sleeps 6 The Mountain Villa is a situated on the Clarens Golf and Leisure Estate and has wonderful views of the Maluti mountain range. Overlooking Mount Horeb, this newly built villa has 3 bedrooms that can accommodate up to 6 guests. The main bedroom has a queen size bed, 2nd bedroom a double bed and the 3rd 2 single beds. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with a bath and shower. The main and second bedrooms have sliders that goes onto a large patio. Mountain Villa has an open plan lounge/ dining room/ kitchen from which sliders go onto a large patio with wood burning braai. The lounge has a LED screen TV with DSTV (Commercial Package) and a wood burning fireplace for those chilly winter nights. The kitchen is fully equipped with granite tops, a gas hob/electric oven, microwave and dishwasher. A laundry service can be pre-arranged at an additional cost. Arrarat is a newly built property situated in the stunning, Clarens Golf and Trout Estate, completed 2nd June 2016. This self-catering unit accommodates up to six guests. This property sits in a cul de sac on the most beautiful stand in the estate positioned directly above the fairway, with unobstructed views overlooking the golf course, fishing lake and Clarens. There are virtually no buildings around the unit, and no drive-through traffic due to cul de sac, so Arrarat offers a completely different privacy level to all of the other units on the golf estate, with a patio specifically designed to be much larger than others on offer in the estate so that you can take full advantage of views. The unit consists of two bedrooms with en-suite (Master has bath only with shower attachment, whilst 2nd room shower only), offering a king bed that can be split into two single beds (on request), two single beds, and a sleeper couch in the lounge. Roll out mattresses are permitted for large parties, if required. We also own a smaller unit that can accommodate up to five guests just outside the estate should you have a large party, so 11 guests can be accommodated in total. The second unit is called Amarola and can be viewed via the link on the right hand side under "Our other listings". There is an open-plan, fully-equipped kitchen, a six-seater dining table and chairs, and a lounge with a cast iron wood burning fire place (1st Bag wood we stock at our cost, with additional wood available in town), as well as a full Premium Package for DSTV with Explora Decoder (at the time of writing, we are the only self-catering unit in Clarens to offer this, as opposed to the limited commercial package). All appliances and linens are top quality, including duck down feather duvets and pillows. The unit also offers a built-in Jet Master braai, and club house access. We also offer use of full golf membership for a small fee, affording you 50% discount in total, as well as bicycles to rent and PS3, and Xbox consoles and games (Strictly by prior arrangement). Arrarat offers the following not to be offered in any other golf estate property; Full Premium DSTV package. Initial stock of wood for fire (Other units you shall purchase gas at your cost by prior arrangement), electric blankets, electric wall heaters in rooms, sunlight, Cremora, dishwasher tablets, LUXURY blankets, towels and fleeces, goose neck duvets and pillows as (opposed to microfibre). We have taken the view that rather than trying to offer bare minimum in order to maximise revenue, to offer our guests what we ourselves would enjoy from a getaway property, which prove to be very far apart when considering furnishings, linens and small conveniences. There is a 32inch flat screen TV with Blue Ray DVD player in master bedroom. There is a very large tree that offers cover for vehicles on the stand, as well as plenty of space for extra parking safely tucked away in cul de sac. Apart from the outstanding Golf Estate, Clarens has many great attractions in and around the area, including the Basotho Cultural Village, the Clarens Village Conservancy and the Golden Gate National Park. Activities would include, walking, cycling, quad biking, and horse riding on some of the most scenic trails in the world, as well as white river rafting, zip lining, archery, and much more.

Paddocks 6

Paddocks Six is a brand new home in a new development still in progress. It is situated in the Swartland in Clarens. This beautifully furnished 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom home is a mere 10-minute walk to the village square with its various shops and art galleries. Paddocks Six can comfortably accommodate 4 adults and 2 children. The home comprises an open-plan kitchen and living area with a lounge and dinning area. The main bedroom is fitted with a double bed and a spacious en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and basin. The second bedroom is fitted with a double bed and the third bedroom has a double bunk. The second bathroom also spacious is fitted with a bath, shower, toilet and basin. The kitchen is beautifully designed with granite tops and top of the range crockery and cutlery. A fireplace is positioned between the lounge and dining area and will definitely make a huge difference during winter months. Amaluti is simply stunning; a tasteful blend of luxury, comfort, elegant décor, space, colour and glorious views to the Maluti Mountains. Its special ambience is both peaceful and relaxing. The open plan design and unique frameless glass walls enhance the stunning views by bringing the outside in. Situated in the secure Clarens Golf and Leisure Estate Amaluti is an easy drive from Gauteng, Durban or Bloemfontein. ACCOMMODATION Amaluti can be leased in different ways: The whole house, sleeping up to 8 adults and 4 children (or 10 adults) The upper level sleeping up to 4 adults and 4 children (or 6 adults) The lower level sleeping up to 4 adults The accommodation consists of four double en suite bedrooms; two upstairs and two down, each with its own colour scheme. The rooms have either king-size double beds or twin beds. All have luxurious linen, superbly comfortable mattresses, masses of soft pillows, down duvets, electric blankets and under-floor heating to ensure a good night's rest in even the coldest weather. The bathrooms, 'open plan' behind the bedrooms, have luxury fittings, a glass shower, a floating basin and matching 'Perfekt' bath, Beautiful Earth toiletries, luxurious cotton bath sheets and twin dressing gowns. Upstairs the 'Loft' or 5th bedroom is an open plan loft room situated above the lounge and living area, not as private as the other 4 bedrooms, but it has its own shower and toilet. It has twin beds which can be made into a king size bed if necessary. There is also a small sleeper couch. The open plan kitchen on the Upper or road level is spacious and fitted with all that a chef could want, including gas hob, electric oven, microwave, a wine chiller, deep freeze and fridge, dishwasher and H2O water filter. The serving counter gives ready access to the dining table that can seat twelve. Adjacent is the Bar unit. The upstairs living area has one seating area around the gas fireplace and TV (DStv), and another in front of the folding glass wall, providing spectacular, uninterrupted views. Downstairs the living area has a mini kitchen, two sofas, a second TV (DStv), and another lovely folding glass wall opening into the garden. The whole house has under floor heating and is an extra oil heater. Outside is a separate patio with verandah furniture and gas braai. There is a double garage and covered parking, for four cars. Amaluti is serviced daily by Siena Mokoena who cleans, wasesh up and make beds but does not cook or do private laundry for guests. CLARENS Clarens, known as 'The Jewel of the Free State' is beautiful at any time of the year. It is charming and friendly with exciting places to visit and things to do. There is something to please everyone; spectacular sandstone scenery in and around the Golden Gate National Park 20 kms down the road, an excellent golf course and a wide range of Historic Explorations and Outdoor activities which include a Fossil sites, a Dinosaur trail, Hiking, Fishing, Horse Riding, White Water Rafting and Quad Bike Trails to name a few. There are also numerous interesting Curio and Craft shops, first class Art galleries and many good Restaurants. Gavin will be delighted to assist during your stay. We regret that we do not allow smoking in the house, nor is it suitable for pets.

Madrid Farm Cottages

On the R712 about 9 km from Clarens and 8 km from Golden Gate. Turn off onto the Sunnyside Road and drive for about 3km on a dirt road. We have three self-catering cottages in the large garden on the farm "Madrid", which has been in the Mousley family for 144 years. The cottages are close enough to the homestead to be very safe but still out of sight of each other. Also in the garden is a Banksia rose which was planted soon after the first George Bennett Mousley arrived to take up residence during the early 1880s. The present generations farming here are the fourth and fifth Mousleys to take up the challenges involved in farming on this farm. Sunrise Cottage is a weathered sandstone cottage with the main bedroom opening out onto the patio and a second bedroom with en suite bathroom. The shower room opens off the small hallway between the two bedrooms. Optional King-sized or single beds. This cottage sleeps two extra guests on pullout beds with bases and good foam mattresses. Ideal for children or small adults. The lawn in front of the cottage is ideal for children to play under the watchful eyes of their parents relaxing on the patio. From here there is a lovely view across the garden towards the mountains. Sunshine Cottage is also built with old sandstone, having two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms (one shower, one bath). Optional King-sized or single beds. This cottage was built in 2003 with stone from a redundant Lucerne shed and has its own fenced lawned garden with a view across an old orchard towards the mountains. Sunset Cottage is a plastered brick building, having one double bedroom and one bathroom with a bath. This very private cottage is ideal for a honeymoon or a couple breaking away for a weekend alone. From the stoep one can look across the lawn and rose-garden towards a ridge which protects the garden from the west wind. All the cottages have open-plan living areas with fully equipped kitchens, (stove with oven, microwave & fridge, kettle, toaster, dishcloths, dishwashing liquid & scourer incl.) and open fireplaces as well as private braai areas with views of the garden and mountains.  Bath soap and liquid hand washing soap is provided. Linen is provided (except swimming towels) as well as extra blankets, electric blankets , heaters and fans. Complimentary tea, coffee, sugar and creamer provided on arrival. The cottages are serviced daily. The fireplace will be packed each day but guests are requested to bring extra wood. Not available for sale on the farm. There are no TVs in the cottages. Guests are welcome to bring their own radios or CD players but are requested to consider other guests when playing their music. We do not have card facilities so guests are requested to make direct payments for the deposit and another just before arriving. The balance to be paid during the week preceding arrival. Clarens Retreat

RiverWalk is situated in the tranquil village of Clarens, away from the hustle and bustle of the Square, but within walking distance of the major art galleries, restaurants and shops. Iona Cottage

This cottage is set on its own erf in the Swartland of Clarens. Surrounded by mountains, Horeb is visible to the east of Iona. To the west, there is a huge convex cliff which juts out to the left of Iona. To its right, directly opposite the cottage, and part of the range, is a section of concave cliffs. After heavy rainfall, a waterfall flows from the right hand corner of these cliffs which is both visible and audible from the garden of Iona. Eagles nest in these cliffs. They are often seen and heard across from Iona. Why the name 'IONA'? In his book "Civilisation", Kenneth Clark describes the island of Iona off the west coast of Scotland as secure and sacred, with a feeling that 'some God is in this place'. He adds that 'Iona gives one more than anywhere else... a sense of inner peace and freedom'. This statement is applicable to Clarens. The Cottage A rose garden and several walnut trees surround the self-catering cottage. The property is fenced in on three sides with a high sandstone wall to the south. The Courtyard Café

The Courtyard is situated in the beautiful Free State town of Clarens. We have 4 rooms upstairs above the bakery and café and a self catering cottage. Room 1 Has a King sized bed which can be split into 2 singles. It has a small far fridge stocked with milk and water, as well as a tea tray, hairdryer, fan and TV with B&B DSTV. The bathroom has a shower only. Room 2 & 3 Are identical and have a queen sized bed each. Highland View is a cozy self-catering double storey cottage in Clarens. North and East facing verandahs and an upstairs balcony, offer generous views of the surrounding picturesque scenery. The upper level of the house offers three comfortable bedrooms on a dark sprung wooden floor. The main bedroom has a queen size bed, an en suite shower, basin and toilet, with under-floor heating, and a private balcony for watching early morning sunrises over the Maluti Mountains. The second bedroom, north facing, has comfortable twin beds. A double bunk bed in the third bedroom completes the picture and is ideal for the kids to have their own space. Ou Kliphuis

Charming self-catering flatlet attached to one of the oldest houses in Clarens, probably about 100 years old. Recently renovated, the "Ou Kliphuis" is built of sandstone, solid blocks weighing between 50 and 100 kgs each, requiring two men to pick up and lay a single block whilst building. A slow process! The blocks have been chiselled by stone masons of the past, a dying skill and are therefore difficult to source and match. For the renovations some of the sandstone had to be brought in from Lesotho and other stone came from dismantled barns on local farms. The house is diagonally opposite the Dutch Reformed Church Hall and was initially called "Saal Maar Af" indicating the saddle must come off. In other words a place to rest the horses. It is in the Main Street of Clarens, but at the quiet end. However, all shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance. As you enter the property you see Mt.Horeb in all its majesty, with its arms outstretched, guarding our quaint village.There is a beautiful garden for guests to enjoy.  The flatlet can accommodate only one couple sharing a double bed. There is a small kitchenette with a microwave oven, an electric frying pan, toaster, kettle, crockery, cutlery,coffee, tea, Rooibos and Ceylon, fresh milk and biscuits. There are also braai facilities with an outdoor sitting area. The bathroom is spacious with a shower and heated towel rail and a fan heater in the bedroom plus an electric blanket. Clarens is ideally situated - close enough for a weekend getaway, far enough to escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life - only 3 hours from Joburg, Bloemfontein and 4 hours from Durban. Neethlings Place is only a stone throw away from the popular village of Clarens. A solid sandstone construction with a large patio offers magnificent views of the Maluti Mountains. Casamori was built 5 years ago by Carlo Di Mezza and is considered a jewel in the small town of Clarens. This beautiful self catering house is situated in a quiet part of town, but yet conveniently close to the town square. Casamori has two double bed rooms and one room with two single beds. These rooms are all carpeted with under-floor heating. One of the master bedrooms also have an en-suite bathroom. In addition there is a loft with two single beds and electric blankets. All the rooms are spacious and comfortable. A dressing table is also provided for in each room as well as in the loft. There is also a sleeping couch for two extra people. The lounge and dining area is spacious, stylish and modern with a wooden floor. This lovely area is kept warm and cosy with a Morso heating stove. The open plan kitchen is fully equipped and to add to your convenience a dishwasher is also provided for. There is an enclosed breakfast courtyard. Casamori has an established and well maintained garden, with beautifully large poplars. The garage building comprises of one-and-a-half garage. Clarens Cottage 2

This charming cottage is situated in the town of Clarens, known as "The Jewel of the Free State". It is within walking distance from the village square with its various shops and art galleries. The cottage is tastefully decorated and perfect for 4 guests. The main bedroom is fitted with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath, toilet and basin. The second bedroom is fitted with 2 single beds. The second bathroom has a shower, toilet and basin. The open-plan kitchen is equipped with fridge-freezer, microwave, cutlery and crockery. The dining and lounge area leads out onto a patio with braai facilities. Clarens offer the best trout fishing in the country and attract anglers and fly-fishers from far and wide. The mountains are an attraction of their own and offer incredible hiking trails and abseiling where the beautiful landscape can be enjoyed.

Hannics Retreat

Located near the Maluti Mountains and Golden Gate, Hannic Retreat is situated in Clarens - just a few minutes walk from the town centre. The cottage offers a three bedroom home with the main bedroom being full en suite which is heated. There is a second full heated bathroom with a separate toilet. Two of the bedrooms have queen size extra long double beds with wooden cottage pane doors leading onto the veranda while the third bedroom has two three quarter beds. All beds have electric blankets and each bedroom has under carpet heating. The lounge, dinning room and kitchen are open plan with a gas fired log fireplace and DStv in the lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped for six people and includes a combination fridge/freezer, a microwave oven as well as a stove having four plates and an oven. If required, at an additional fee service can be provided. Adjacent to the lounge is a lock up garage and a laundry. Double wooden cottage pane doors lead from the lounge onto the veranda, which also serves as an entertainment/relaxing area with braai facilities. While having sun downers one can enjoy the view of the mountain where Titanic rock is situated. The centre of the village is a seven minute stroll away where one will find a number of art galleries, a variety of shops offering a wide range of interior décor and souvenirs The village also offers a number of restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Visitors have a variety of activities available and they include, horse ridding, quad biking, hiking, trout fishing, golf, abseiling, mountain trails and nature reserve which also has some bushman paintings. In the winter there is also the possibility that snow may be seen on the high lying areas. Alternatively one can go on scenic drives to Golden Gate (17km), Sani pass. Last but not least the village with its friendly people offer an ideal country laid back environment for a break away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan centres.

Ongeag Guesthouse

Ongeag Guest House is a spacious, fully equipped double-storey sandstone house, surrounded by the mountains of Clarens. For nature and hiking enthusiasts, Clarens is the place to get away from busy city life. Wide balconies integrate the warmth of the house with splendid views of the surrounding scenery. The Lodge was developed in conjunction with the main house, which remains part of the setting overlooking the Maluti Mountains and wide open countryside. Recently, Martin and Linda purchased the Lodge from the current owner Hanneke van den Dolder and wish to continue providing the wonderful experience developed over the years since the Lodge was opened. The owners Martin hails from Somerset in the United Kingdom and is a business man involved in the Mining Industry throughout Africa. Linda, an Accountant, now working in HR, was born in Camperdown, Natal and moved to Johannesburg, where they later met and married. They have four children, and three  grandchildren, living throughout South Africa and they often come to the Lodge for a visit. Their desire to move back to the countryside, where their roots were formed, has driven them to look for the most perfect of places to settle for their retirement. Their energy and drive will ensure that Rehoboth Lodge's history will be maintained for many years to come.

The Loft Room @ Craigrossie

The Loft Room @ Craigrossie is a newly renovated space for two people on Craigrossie Game Farm, 8 km outside of Clarens en route to Golden Gate. The fully self-contained space that has a private entrance, comprises a large and sunny loft room with views over the Craigrossie dams and Mount Horeb, double bed, bathroom with a shower and a kitchenette downstairs. Catch and release fishing on the Craigrossie dams is part of the deal, so bring your fishing gear along! Along the edges of the dam there are benches in some of our favourite spots for bird watching or just enjoying the peace and tranquility. The kitchenette is fully equipped with pots, pans, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery. A mini oven is provided with two hot plates, as well as a fridge/freezer. The kitchen is also "ready"; stocked with the essentials: salt, pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, herbs and spices. Coffee, tea, sugar and milk are also provided. A Weber compact kettle barbeque, as well as a camping table and chairs are available for use. The Loft Room is completely secure and parking is available in the garage. To make your stay as comfortable as possible we provide 100% cotton percale bedding, a premium satellite TV package, DVD player and free Wifi up to 2 gigabytes. Clarens is dependent on cellular telephone service providers so the speeds are consistent with the lifestyle - leisurely! For the rather chilly winter months, a feather duvet and electric blanket are provided. The nearby town of Clarens has a vibrant arts scene, numerous restaurants and activities on offer to suit every taste. We are also very close to Golden Gate National Park, famous for its natural beauty, hiking trails and a newly renovated vulture restaurant. Our next door neighbours, Bokpoort offer mountain bike rides and horse riding, and through places like Clarens Extreme, white river rafting, hot air ballooning and quad bike rides can be arranged. Royal Coachman

Situated directly between the picturesque town of Clarens and the Golden Gate National Park, the Royal Coachman lodge offers luxury self-catering accommodation next to a 2.6ha dam well stocked with rainbow and brown trout (river fishing is also available on the property in the Little Caledon). There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms (heated towel rails). A loft room can sleep a further 4 guests in two single beds and a ¾ sleeper couch. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a built in braai on the wooden deck that takes you right to the water's edge. For the winters there is under floor heating and open fireplaces in the lounge and main bedroom. Main Bedroom: has king size bed (or 2 singles if needed), fireplace and under tile heating with ENSUITE BATHROOM, bath and separate shower facilities. 2nd Bedroom: has two single beds next to each other, under tile heating. 2nd Bathroom: has bath facilities. Upstairs Loft: room has 2 single beds and a ¾ sleeper couch. Kitchen: is fully equipped and includes microwave, full oven and stove and fridge with separate freezer compartment. De Molen

De Molen Farm was established in 1872 and is situated in the Rooiberge Mountains between Clarens and the Golden Gate National Park, a few hundred metres off the tar road. Accommodation consists of: Fisherman's Cottage, which sleeps 4 guests, has 2 bedrooms en suite with showers in the bathrooms, a kitchenette and open plan cosy lounge area with open fireplace and outside veranda. Hideaway Cottage, ideal for a couple, boasts a large bedroom and bathroom, open plan kitchenette, dining room and lounge with open fireplace and mountain view. Single bed placed in main bedroom could be used for a young child. Oak Tree Cottage, quaint and compact, and under thatch roof. Rondavel- style and suitable for a couple. Bathroom consists of shower only. Kitchenette only suitable for preparation of breakfasts or light meals, ideal for those who prefer to explore the cuisine in town. Small patio overlooking mountain view. The Old Milkshed, sleeps up to 7 guests. It has 3 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a King size bed and a single bed in the same room. The second bedroom has a double bed. The third bedroom has a bunk bed that can sleep two adults or children. The bunk bed can be made into two single beds. There are two bathrooms, one has a shower and the other has a bath. Neither are en-suite. The open plan area is very spacious and includes a modern kitchen, dining room and lounge. The wooden deck patio has a stunning view of the mountains. There is a braai facility and we supply the wood. You may be fortunate enough to see lambs pronking around in the field near to The Old Milkshed or a herd of Ngunis and calves grazing in the meadow. There is a private entrance and you will probably feel as though you are on your own farm. However the main farm house and other cottages are within 50 meters behind the Old Milkshed. Owners request no smoking in the establishment and no pets as the farm owners have their own pets on the premises. The farm does not have TV facilities, however there are numerous bars and lounges available in the town of Clarens for these purposes.
